DIY: Hot Oil Treatment

12/04/2015

Today I’m going to show you how to maintain your relaxed hair for cheap using homemade hot oil treatment.

Up until +enibaby4 mentioned this treatment I knew nothing about it. my hair was chemically damaged and this was going to be my last try restoring it before my big chop. I had the hot oil treatment professionally done and I was hooked. It helped repair, stopped breakage and left it looking healthier and more conditioned. My stylist was kind enough to give me the recipe and i thought to share it with you.

Here is what you’ll need :-

·         Shower cap (or plastic wrap, if you insist)
·         Oil blend ( Argan, olive, almond, coconut, jojoba, castor, sesame or any natural oil ) I bet we have one or more of these in our pantry. You can generally find this oil in large grocery stores or health food stores. (Just make sure they are genuine).
·         Hair
·         Hot water
·         Towel

Here is how to:

1.    Place the oils in a jar and place the jar in a bowl of hot water to warm up or microwave it until its warm to the touch (not hot)

2.    Comb your hair and section into small area.

3.    Starting at your scalp. Dribble a little oil onto the palm of your hand and massage well into scalp and hair.

4.    Work down the hair shaft, adding extra oil as needed until all your hair is covered.

5.    Give your scalp a good massage with the oil for 3 – 5 minutes.

6.    Cover your hair with a shower cap and apply heat. This keeps your hair warm, opens the hair follicles and helps the oil penetrate deeper into the hair shaft. Leave in for 30 minutes.

7.    Wash your hair. You will probably have to wash your hair with shampoo twice to remove all the oil. Make sure you wash behind your ears well and clean the oil of your skin around your neck.

8.  Dry, comb and style as desired.

For the best results, use hot oil treatments regularly. Some people use hot oil treatments monthly, biweekly, or weekly, but how frequently you do a treatment depends on your hair's texture and conditioning. Hot oil treatments at home can be just as effective as hot oil treatments from a salon.
